Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare CdS powder having uniform particle shape and free of large agglomerate, by adding an activating agent and a flux before or after the formation of CdS by the mixing and grinding of Cd powder and sulfur powder, and finally calcining the mixture.
CONSTITUTION: An activating agent[e.g. CuCl2, AgNO3, In2(SO4)2, Al2(SO4)3, Ga2(SO4)3, etc.]and a flux (CdCl2, ZnCl2, etc.), and if necessary, a dispersing agent (e.g. NaCl, KCl, etc.) in combination with the flux, are added to the reaction raw materials before or after the CdS producing process comprising the mixing and grinding of metallic cadmium powder and sulfur powder and before the calcination process of the mixture. A photo-conductive CdS having uniform particle shape and free from large agglomerate can be prepared by this method.
