Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare a uniform carbonaceous product having improved physical and chemical properties in high yield, by decomposing a copolymer of a monomer capable of forming a linear high polymer by the polymerization with a monomer capable of forming three dimensional crosslinkages by the polymerization thermally at a high temperature and pressure.
CONSTITUTION: A monomer capable of forming a linear high polymer by the polymerization is copolymerized with a monomer capable of forming three- dimensional crosslinkages by the polymerization, e.g. divinylbenzene or biphenyl. The resultant copolymer is then sealed in a pressure vessel, e.g. an autoclave, and decomposed and carbonized under heating at 350W900°C and 20W300kg/cm2. A carbonaceous product having a uniform structure of various shapes, e.g. spherical, coral, porous massive or ciliary shape, can be obtained in high yield.
