Abstract
PURPOSE:To align dfferent-diameter optical fibers by opposing two V-groove plates, having V grooves, to each other with a spacer between, and holding optical fibers in the V-shaped grooves. CONSTITUTION:On a silicon wafer, a protective film is formed by using SiO2, Si2N4, etc., and V grooves are formed by anisotropic etching of Si, thus forming a V-groove plate 4. Those V-groove plates 4 are stacked accurately and fixed with a spacer 6 between to form a constant gap, and then optical fibers 1 are inserted. An optical fiber 1' having a small diameter is inserted into a gap at a flat part between the large-diameter optical fibers 1, and they are fixed. Therefore, those fibers 1 and 1' differing in diameter are aligned. To shift them in center position from one another, a spacer 6' is added and a fiber 1'' to be shifted in center is stached.
