Abstract

PURPOSE:To achieve high-precision measurement without reference to dust sticking to a scattering surface by consituting all of the irradiation window of optical multiple scattering system, the irradiation window of an optical transmission system, and an incidence window to light to the photosensor of both the optical systems by using scattering material. CONSTITUTION:Upper and lower heads 1 and 2 are inserted and opposed to each other with paper 3 to be inspected. The through holes 17 and 18 of a ratatable sample holder 16 which has the through holes 17 and 18 and standard samples 19 and 20 are positioned over irradiation windows 4 and 5, and paper 3 is irradiated with intermittent light through a rotary sector 13. Measurememt light from an optical multipe scattering system having interacting effect to the paper 3 and meausrement light from an optical transmission system are detected after passing through the incidence window 6 of a sensor 12. Then, scattering materials 31, 32 and 33 such as opal glass, etc., are provided to the irradiation window 4 of the optical meaurement system, the irradiation window 5, and incidence window 6 for light to the sensor 12. Consequently, ideal scattered light is obtained and even if dust sticks to the scattering surface, etc., a measurement signal is obtained under no influence of the dust.
