Abstract
PURPOSE: A herbicide that contains the clathrate of 2,6-dichlorobenzonitrile (DBN) with cyclic dextrin, thus inhibiting the crystallization and vaporization of DBN and showing long-lasting herbicidal effect without injury to crops and unpleasant odor.
CONSTITUTION: 2,6-Dichlorobenzonitrile (DBN) is made into a clathrate with cyclic dextrin to give the objective herbicide. It is obtained by mixing DBN, as it is, or its solution in an organic solvent thoroughly with a saturated aqeuous solution of a cyclic dextrin (six to eight glucose molecules link to form a ring molecule) and the resultant precipitate is dried on stading or under reduced pressure. Various defects of DBN are completely eliminated and additionally the maximum herbicidal effect is obtained.
