Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain an inexpensive stainless steel with superior seawater resistance, strength and hot workability by controlling Mo and Ni to minimum necessary amounts, increasing the contents of Cr and N, and reducing the contents of O, C, S and Si.
CONSTITUTION: This Mo saving austenite stainless steel with superior seawater resistance consists of, by weight, ≤0.05% C, ≤0.60% Si, 2W5% Mn, 6W8% Ni, 19W22.5% Cr, 0.18W0.30% N and the balance Fe with inevitable elements and has ≥25 Cr' equiv. Cr' equiv.=Cr equiv. -20(C+S)-1,000, and Cr equiv.= Cr+2.5Mo+0.4Ni+20N. By further adding a small amount of O, S, Mo, Cu, Ce, Ca, B, Mg, a rare earth element, etc. to said composition, the seawater resistance, hot workability, corrosion resistance, etc. can be enhanced furthermore.
