PURPOSE:To reduce the waveform distortion of a reproduced output for a thin film magnetic head consisting of a conductor layer formed between the upper and lower magnetic layers, by forming the patterns of the upper and lower magnetic layers into asymmetrical formes to each other. CONSTITUTION:A lower magnetic layer 10 of ''Permalloy '', etc. is formed on a substrate 4 of glass, etc. in several mum thickness. A coil layer 12 of aluminum, etc. is provided thickness. A coil layer 12 of aluminum, etc. is provided with intervention of an insulated layer 11 of SiO2, etc. Then an upper magnetic layer 13 of ''Permalloy '', etc. is stacked on the layer 12. Thus a thin film magnetic head is obtained. The size of the layer 10 is set asymmetrical to the size (1) of the layer 13. In such way, the waveform distortion is reduced for the reproduced output.
