Abstract

PURPOSE:To eliminate the need for a plurality of display panels by using a single display panel combinedly for a direct looking type display and a head- up display, in a head-up display device. CONSTITUTION:The display panel 8 is provided with, for example, a liquid crystal display or the like which enables displayed information to be read from both face and back side by using a transparent base plate, wherein the display on the back side consists of horizontally reversed characters. When using the display panel 8 as one for the head-up display, the image on the back side is reflected by the windshield e5 so that is is visually confirmed by the driver 4 as a virtual image 9. The panel 8 is placed in the vicinity of the front face of the dashboard 10 in the same manner as in the case of a usual display panel, and an opening part 11 with a lid extended toward the windshield 5 is provided at the upper face of the panel 8.
