Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce a cost of a dichroic mirror, by deleting an area which has not been used effectively as a rectangular substrate, making it a trapezoidal substrate, and increasing the number of mounting substrates by that portion. CONSTITUTION:When considering an effective luminous flux which is contrituted to image formation of a projection picture, and considering a sectional shape on a dichroic mirror 1R relating to the effective luminous flux of each color, it becomes a trapeziod ABCD as for an effective luminous flux of red and green, and becomes a trapezoid A'B'C'D' as for an effective luminous flux of blue. Accordingly, as for a shape of the dichroic mirror 1R for red reflection use, a hand drum type AEB'C' FD will do. In the same way, a shape of the dichroic mirror 1B for blue reflection use can also be made same as that of the hand drum type AEB'C'FD. Based on this idea, 1R and 1B are arranged in X-shape, respectively, are divided into two by a cross line 5, and the whole body is constituted of 4 trapezoidal plates. The number of mounting substrates can be increased by arraying this 4-divided trapezoidal substrate of 1R and 1B, in the form of a ring on a disklike substrate holder 7 in a vapor deposition device.
