PURPOSE:To decrease the fast feed and rewinding time, by feeding a tape in ultra-high speed until the ratio of a rotating period at the fast feed or rewinding is a slightly smaller value than a stored value, and feeding with a normal fast feed and rewinding speed thereafter. CONSTITUTION:A signal with a period in response to the rotation of reels 1 and 2 is picked up from detectors 4a and 5a provided for angular velocity detection and is supplied to period/voltage converters 7 and 8. The converters 7 and 8 generate a voltage corresponding to the supply signal and supplies the voltage to a switching circuit 9. The signal from the switching circuit 9 is supplied to an operating circuit 10. A comparison circuit 11 compares a quotinent from the operation circuit 10, i.e., the ratio of the rotating period of the reels 1 and 2 with a value from a memory 2, and when the quotinent is greater than the value in the memory 2, the ultra-high speed fast feed and rewinding signal is supplied to a subtractor 13, and when the quotinent is lower than the value in the memory 12, the signal is sent to a control circuit 14. When a switching signal is supplied to the control circuit 14, the control circuit 14 supplies a control signal for the ultra-high speed fast feed and rewinding of a motor 17 to the motor 17 from the comparison circuit 11.
