Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable stocking of a sail of a ship having a high superstructure and movement of the sail to a use position to be easily carried out by a method wherein a movable sail is fitted by a lifting mechanism and a rotating mechanism. CONSTITUTION:The movable sail 5 is fitted by the lifting mechanism A and a rotating mechanism B and is stocked in a sail-stocking part 4 provided at a side part of the superstructure 3. When using the sail 5 by lifting it from the stocking part 4, a hydraulic motor 13 in an inner-cylinder lift driving mechanism A to lift an inner cylinder 8 through a pinion 10 and a rack 9, and concurrently a mast 7 and the said 5 are lifted. Next, a hydraulic-type stopper is operated so that a stopper pin is advanced into an engaging groove of the inner cylinder 8 to prevent falling. Further, a stand 14 is retracted by operating a hydraulic cylinder 16, and a worm 22 is engaged with a wheel 21 by operating a hydraulic cylinder 26. Based on a signal fed from a wind direction detector, a hydraulic motor 23 is operated to rotate the sail to an appropriate position.
