Abstract

PURPOSE:To hold tension of a wire electrode to constant and prevent disconnection and flexion of the wire electrode, by applying tension to the wire electrode through a tension pulley, detecting the displacement of a position of the tension pulley and controlling a feed speed of the wire electrode in such a manner as to hold this position to a prescribed position. CONSTITUTION:A wire electrode 2 is fed from a wire bobbin 3 by a wire feed mechanism 4 and accepted by pulling rollers 5a, 5b to perform electric discharge machining of a work 18. A tension pulley 15 is provided in an extensibly hanging route of the wire electrode 2 and pulled downward with constant force by a torque motor 19 to apply constant tension to the wire electrode. A position of tension pulley 15 is detected by an optical detector 33, and speed of a wire feed roller 18 is controlled by a motor 6 so that the position of the tension pulley may be held to constant.
