Abstract
PURPOSE:To enable platinum to adhere to a porous carbon plate so that the entire platinum effectively works as a catalyst for an electrode by making platinum to adhere to the surface of the porous carbon plate, oxidizing and reducing the carbon plate electrochemically in an aqueous electrolyte solution by using the carbon plate as an electrode so as to increase the surface area of the carbon plate by corrosions, and fixing a catalyst to the carbon plate. CONSTITUTION:The surface of a porous carbon plate is impregnated and coated with a trace amount of platinum. Next, the carbon plate coated with a slight amount of platinum is electrochemically oxidized and reduced in 10wt% aqueous sulfuric acid solution by using the carbon plate as an electrode. After that, the carbon plate is sent to a platinum catalyst process in which platinum is converted into a water-insoluble platinum compound before the platinum compound is fixed to the surface of the carbon plate, and the carbon plate is immersed in 100% hydrazine hudrate for 30min so as to reduce the platinum compound into platinum and to fix platinum to the carbon plate.
