Abstract

PURPOSE:To facilitate the sensing of the irregularly reflected light even though the difference is small between the reflection rate of an object to be detected and that of the basement part, by measuring the diffusely reflected light from a part to be detected. CONSTITUTION:A light emitting element 11 is set so as to have the light emitting signal an incident angle alpha of about 30 deg.-45 deg. to an object 12 to be detected. A photodetector 13 is set opposite to the object 12 in terms of the photodetecting surface. In such constitution, the detector 13 detects the irregularly reflected light sent from the object 12. Thus the irregularly reflected light is substantially zero since a basement 15 like a photoreceptor drum, etc. is close to the mirror surface in case the object 12 does not exists. In case the object 12 like the blank paper exists, the irregularly reflected light is caused. Thus the irregularly reflected light is detected, and the existence of this reflected light is perceived.
