Rotary adapters 81 and 82 which are provided at the tips of the sliding plates 51 and 52 rotatably supports a shaft 7 of the roll paper. A potentiometer 9 is constituted by a resistor 91 provided on the guide rail and a brush 92 attached to the sliding plate. When the roll paper is consumed and the remaining quantity is reduced, the sliding plates gradually rise up by the expanding force of the springs. When the change in position is detected by the potentiometer, the remaining quantity of the roll paper can be de detected.
