Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve easily and inexpensively the mechanical strength of a titled material obtained by coating the surfaces of ≥1 kind of specific inorg. fibers with ≥1 kind of Ca, Cd, Sn and Sb then combining the same with matrix metals or alloys.
CONSTITUTION: Inorg. fibers of ≥1 kind of silica fibers, boron fibers and alumina fibers are used as a reinforcing material and the surfaces thereof are coated with ≥1 kind of metallic elements selected from Ca, Cd, Sn and Sb. Otherwise, after they are coated with ≥1 kind of inorg. and org. compds. of said metallic elements, the simple metallic elements are deposited by reduction. Next, the reinforcing materials treated in this way are combined with metals such as Al, Mg, Cu, Ni, Ti or their alloys as matrix. Then, the mechanical strength of the composite material is considerably improved.
