Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic recording medium superior in electromagnetic conversion characteristic and durability, by forming a resin coating film, which includes needle-shaped nonmagnetic matters and granular nonmagnetic matters, on a base and vapor-depositing a ferromagnetic metal from the oblique direction onto this film to form a magnetic film. CONSTITUTION:A resin coating film 2 which includes needle-shaped or flake- shaped nonmagnetic matters 3 and granular nonmagnetic matters 4, is formed on a base 1, and a ferromagnetic metal or alloy is vapor-deposited in vacuum onto the film 2 from the oblique direction (for example, the direction of an angle alpha of incidence=70 deg.) to form a magnetic film 5. The magnetic film 5 has >=100Angstrom width in the recording direction and has >=3 partitions, which buffer the magnetic mutual function, within 10mu length. Needle-shaped alpha-Fe2O3 powder and granular chromium oxide powder are used as nonmagnetic matters 3 and 4, respectively.
