Abstract

PURPOSE:To maintain the adequate crown quantity of a hollow roll and to assure good tracking by providing heat pipes sealed therein with a heat medium that evaporates in high temp. parts and condenses in low temp. parts in the outside circumferential part of the roll thereby making the temp. in the width direction of the roll uniform. CONSTITUTION:In the heating zone (not shown) of a heat treatment device for a metallic strip 1, low temp. parts in contact with the strip 1 under elevation of temp. and high temp. parts that receive radiation heat directly are produced with the roll 9. Plural pieces of heat pipes 20 are mounted in the outside circumferential part of the roll 9 by a method such as press fitting, and the heat medium that evaporates in the high temp. parts of the roll 9 and condenses in the low temp. parts is sealed in the pipes 20. The heat medium cools the high temp. parts by depriving the high temp. parts of a large quantity of heat of evaporation, and heats the low temp. parts by releasing a large quantity of heat of condensation in the low temp. parts, thereby making the temps. in the width direction of the roll 9 uniform.
