Abstract

PURPOSE:To increase the initial performance and the life performance of a pasted lead battery by dispersing hollow short fibers over an electrode plate packed with an active material, and burying the main parts of the said short fibers into the said active material. CONSTITUTION:A pasted lead electrode plate is prepared by packing a paste made of lead used as an active material 1 into a base plate by a usual method. Next, hollow short fibers 2 (for example, 0.3wt% to lead powder of hollow short glass fibers having an outer diameter of 30mu and a length of 3mm.) are dispersed over the electrode plate packed with the paste. After that, main parts of the short fibers 2 are buried into the electrode plate by pressing the fibers 2. As a result, spaces 3 are formed in the interfaces between the fibers 2 and the active material 1 due to the disappearance of water caused during the ageing, and electrolyte enters into the spaces 3.
