CONSTITUTION: High concn. waste liquid in excess of an application range of an ordinary activated sludge method is flowed without dilution into a nitrifying tank 2 through a line 1, and air is supplied thereto through a line 3, so that the greater part of the inflow BOD and NH4-N are oxidized by nitric acid germs. This nitrified liquid 4 is fed to a denitrifying tank 5, where NO2-N is removed by nitrous acid germs. Part of this denitrified liquid 6 is circulated under control of flow rate with a flow rate control pump 8 to the tank 2 through a line 7. At this time the nitrification type of the tank 2 is made into nitric acid type or nitrous acid type by controlling the rate of this circulation. The greater part of the denitrified liquid 6 is discharged through a line 11 via an aerating tank 9 and a solid-liquid separating tank 10.
