Abstract

PURPOSE:To control the quantity of electrostatic charging for an object to be charged easily by making the bias potential of an electrode to be applied with the bias potential variable thereby controlling the quantity of electrostatic charging of said object. CONSTITUTION:A conducting layer 6 as an electrode and a dielectric layer 7 as an object to be charged are provided in lamination, and a corona discharger 8 is disposed opposite to said layer 7. The discharger 8 is connected to an AC power source 9 and is held applied with a constant AC voltage. The layer 6 is connected to a variable DC bias power source 10. While the discharging conditions of the corona discharger 8 connected to the power source 9 are maintained constant, AC corona is discharged from the layer 7, and at this time if the bias potential of the layer 6 on the rear side of the layer 7 is changed by changing the power source 10, the charging potential of the layer 7 is linearly changed.
