Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain high efficiency of combustion throughout a full range of operation, by providing a main and sub intake passages, equipping two throttle valves in the main intake passage while one throttle valve in the subintake passage and communicating an area, between the two throttle valves in the main intake passage, to the subintake passage. CONSTITUTION:Only a throttle valve 21 is slightly opened in a state of idling operation, and a mixture is fed to a combustion chamber 4 from a subintake passage 9. Then the throttle valve 21 is fully opened in a state of medium load operation, and a throttle valve 20 is opened, then the mixture of intake air sucked from a primary side passage 17 mostly passes through the subintake passage 9 while partially through a communication passage 23 and main intake passage 8 to enter the combustion chamber 4. Then in a state of high load operation, the throttle valves 21, 19, 20 are fully opened, and intake air is sucked from both of the primary and secondary side passages 17, 16 to communicate the sub and main intake passages 9, 8 respectively and sucked to the combustion chamber 4. In this way, an engine can be efficiently operated in each state of its load.
