Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce a voltage applied to a crystal body by providing a means of reflecting linear polarized light, incident to the crystal body after being converted by a plorarizing element, several times and then emitting it. CONSTITUTION:Optical signals guided in the 1st and 2nd input optical fibers 8 and 10 are made into parallel beams by convergent optical transmitters 7 and 9 added to those fibers 8 and 10, and they are both inputted to a polarizing element 6 composed of a polarized-beam splitter. This element 6 reflects the light from the 2nd input optical fiber 10 to convert those two input light beams into two linear polarized beam whose oscillation directions are at right angles to each other. Those linear polarized light beams which are converted and emitted from the polarizing element 6 are inputted to a crystal body 1 through a transparent electrode 3, and those two light beams are reflected several times in one plane between two reflecting electrodes 4 and 4' having reflecting function to be emitted from the crystal body 1 through a transparent electrode 3' lastly.
