Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent damage or saturation of a photodetecting element, and to expand the gain control range, by constituting so that a photodetecting level of the photodetecting element becomes constant by inserting an optical intensity modulator between an optical fiber and the photodetecting element. CONSTITUTION:An optical intensity modulator 10 is formed by an electrooptic crystal, etc., and is operated so that the higher the control voltage supplied from a high voltage DC amplifier 9 becomes, the lower the transmittivity of an output light beam of an optical fiber 1 to a photodiode 2 becomes. When an output of the optical fiber 1 increases, the output voltage of a peak detector 6 increases, the output voltage of a differential amplifier 7 and the high voltage DC amplifier 9 increases, the transmittivity of the optical intensity modulator 10 drops, the negative feedback is provided, and an optical input level to the photodiode 2 and output voltage to a terminal 5 are controlled to a constant value.
