Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve sliding characteristic and compressive strength of a sliding member not to be restricted by working temperature by providing ceramic pieces on the sliding surface of a metallic base between a sliding bearing and a rotary shaft, which are slightly projected over the base surface and disposed at intervals. CONSTITUTION:The sliding surface of a metallic base plate 1 is provided with a plurality of ceramic pieces 2 mounted therein at intervals, which are projected in such a manner as to form a projecting difference (a) in level of about 0.02mm. above the surface of the base 1. Therefore, the ceramic pieces 2 slide on the opposed surface, and the base 1 may not contact the opposed surface, whereby material having mechanical characteristics fitting to the working purpose can be used for the base 1 and the difference (a) in level can accommodate foreign matter produced by sliding to prevent damages of the sliding surface. Thus, the sliding member can be improved in sliding characteristic and compressive strength to eliminate restriction on the range of working temperature.
