Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide an apparatus equipped with an anode having a low oxygen voltage, by employing an anode that has been prepared such that a uniform film of titanium oxide and an oxide of non-noble metal elements is formed by spray coating on a conductive substrate.
CONSTITUTION: The anode of the electrochemical apparatus comprises the conductive substrate and the uniform film of titanium oxide and one or more of oxides of non-noble metal elements that has been formed on the substrate by spray coating. The uniform mixture of the titanium oxide and non-noble metal elements is prepared, for instance, such that Nb metal or oxide, or Ni metal or oxide is added to molten titanium oxide, and the resulting mixture is solidified and crushed. This uniform mixture is spray coated by plasma metal spray on the conductive substrate to obtain the film. The thus obtained anode has a low oxygen voltage, when compared with the oxygen titanium spray coated film, and therefore consumption of electric power can be reduced.
