Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide the titled colorant which does not deform colored molded articles, containing, as a main component, a pigment obtd. by hydrolyzing a salt derived from an isoindolinone coloring mater and a base in water and in the presence of an org. solvent which is not freely miscible with water.
CONSTITUTION: A salt of an isoindolinone coloring matter of the formula (wherein X is chlorine, bromine; R is an arom. group, heterocylic group) with a base such as an alkali metal hydroxide, is dispersed in water. To this is added an org. solvent, such as xylene, which is not freely miscible with water. The mixture is heated to hydrolyze said salt. The resulting pigment is transferred into the org. solvent to separate the pigment from water. Then the org. solvent is distilled off to give a spherical or particulate isoindolinone pigment having a uniform particle size. This pigment is used as a main component for the title coloring matter. Since the resulting coloring matter contains said pigment whose particles are not needle-shaped but spherical, the coloring matter does not deform colored molded articles.
