Abstract

PURPOSE: In melting and spinning a pitch comprising a specific amount of a crystalline phase, to modify the pitch into a pitch for carbon fiber having improved spinnable properties, by melting it under heating, adding a specified amount of a fluorine type surface active agent to the pitch, and stirring them.
CONSTITUTION: In melting a pitch comprising 20W95wt% crystalline phase and spinning it, the pitch is heated and melted in an inert atmosphere, 0.1W10wt% based on the pitch amount of a fluorine type surface active agent preferably perfluoroalkylsulfonate (8C) is added to the pitch which is molten state, and stirred, so that the surface tensions of two phases of the crystalline and noncrystalline pitch are reduced, the noncrystalline phase is finely and uniformly dispersed into the crystalline phase, to modify the pitch.
