PURPOSE:To obtain high light response gain, by using a eutectic complex of a pyrylium dye and a specified insulating polymer for a charge generating material, and forming a optically electro-conductive layer containing 4,4'-biphenyl- diphenylamine as a charge transfer material on a conductive substrate. CONSTITUTION:A eutectic complex of a pyrylium dye and an insulating polymer, such as polycarbonate having alkylidenediarylene groups in the main chain is used as a charge generating material, and a charge generating layer 2 is formed on a conductive substrate 1. A charge transfer layer 3 containing as a charge transfer material a 4,4'-diphenylamino-biphenyl compound as shown in the formula X being CH3 or Cl is formed on the layer 2. The layers 2, 3 may be laminated in the reverse order, or the charge transfer material and the charge generating material may be contained in a single photoconductive layer 4, thus permitting charge generating efficiency to be enhanced, the generated charge to be effectively transferred, and high light response gain to be obtained.
