Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:The pyridyloxybenzoic acid anilide derivative of formula (X is H or Cl; Y is H, halogen, methyl, methoxy, trifluoromethyl or nitro; n is 1 or 2).
EXAMPLE: 3-(2-Pyridyloxy)benzoic acid-2'-fluoroanilide.
USE: Herbicide suppressing the germination and growth of weeds and exhibiting remarkable controlling effect to the weeds such as cockspur-grass, monochoria, umbrella plant, etc. especially by the soil-treatment of a paddy field. There is not the least phytotoxicity to transplanted paddy rice plant.
PROCESS: The compound of formula can be prepared, e.g. by reacting the acid chloride of 3-(2-substituted-pyridyloxy)benzoic acid with a substituted aniline in the presence of a base such as triethylamine.
