Abstract
PURPOSE:To provide strength and drawability to a steel wire rod contg. specified amounts of C and one or more among Si, Mn, Cr, Ni, Mo and B by cooling the rod from the austenite state to a specified temp. in hot water, pulling up the rod from the water, and completing the pearlite transformation. CONSTITUTION:A hot rolled steel wire rod contg., by weight, 0.6-0.9% C and one or more among 0.1-1% Si, 0.6-1.5% Mn, 0.05-0.5% Cr, 0.01-1% Ni, 0.01-1% Mo and 0.01-0.1% B is immersed in hot water or a hot aqueous soln. contg. an additive at >=70 deg.C. After cooling the rod from the austenite state to 450-650 deg.C, the rod is pulled up from the water, and it is air-cooled, held in a furnace, or cooled in the furnace to complete the pearlite transformation of the rod. A surfactant, sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid or the like is used as said additive.
