Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a snow-melting material having low reflectivity and capable of scattering without fly loss nor causing deterioration of the working environment or pollution caused by the pollution with black color, by using particle mixture having specific particle size and obtained by heating and carbonizing used old molding sand coated with a thermosetting synthetic resin, and dispersing the sand in particles.
CONSTITUTION: Used old molding sand coated with a thermosetting synthetic resin (preferably furan resin or phenolic resin) is heated and carbonized at 400W800°C in an atmosphere with low oxygen content to effect the particle-to- particle dispersion. The resultant particle composition wherein the content of the fraction having the particle size of 35W200 mesh is ≥95% is used as the main component of the objective snow-melting material. It is preferable to use a mixture of 80W90% above particle composition having particle size of 35W200 mesh and 20W10% particles such as natural sand, coal powder, quenched cast iron cupola slag, and/or calcium silicate fertilizer having particle size of 10W25 mesh, because the snow of the surrounding of a larger particle melts preferentially to form a large cavity, and the unmolten snow surface is irradiated with the reflected light to increase the absorption efficiency of the solar heat.
