Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a friction material for railway vehicle, having excellent adhesivity, water resistance and heat stability, and effective for the prevention of seizing and abrasion increase, and containing steel fibers, low density iron powder, graphite, an inorganic filler, a resin, etc. at specific rations.
CONSTITUTION: The objective friction material containing metallic powder bonded with a resin in intertwined metallic fibers is prepared by compounding 5W65wt% steel fibers (pref. ≤100μ in diameter and ≤10mm in length), 5W30% low density iron powder preferably having a particle size of finer than 100 mesh, 5W30% iron powder (preferably containing cast iron powder) preferably having a particle size of finer than 100 mesh, 0W10% copper powder, 10W30% graphite, 5W15% inorganic filler, 0W10% organic friction regulating agent, and 5W15% binder resin.
