Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect automatically a metal tape with a simple constitution to prevent the failure of recording, by detecting the difference of magnetic reluctance between a normal tape and the metal tape by a detecting coil and switching an electric circuit for the metal tape. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic closed path is constituted with the core of a detecting coil 2 and the magnetic layer surface of a tape 1, and an LC oscillator 3, an f-v converter 4, etc. are connected to the coil 2 In this constitution, when a tape 1 is brought into contact with the coil 2, the inductance of the coil 2 is changed to change the frequency of the LC oscillator 3 because a normal tape and a metal tape are different in magnetic reluctance. This change is converted to a voltage by the f-v converter 4 and is compared in a comparator 5 to detect whether the tape 1 is the normal tape or the metal tape. If the tape 1 is the metal tape, a recording current, an erasing current, etc. are switched through a detector to be adapted to the metal tape. Thus, the metal tape is detected with a simple constitution to prevent the failure of recording.
