Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain seed sludge which enables purification of waste water containing high concentration of BOD components, by mixing coal and water with a nutritive source containing protein, e.g. rice bran or oil cake, phosphorus and potassium, and fermenting the mixture to embed a bacteria group to the coal.
CONSTITUTION: 100pts.wt. of coal (except bituminous coal or anthracite having a sludge or carbon content of 84% or more) having particle sizes of 2W10mm is mixed with 10W80pts.wt. of a nutritive source containing a large amount of protein such as rice bran or oil cake in addition to phosphorus and potassium. The mixture is conditioned at a water-retaining rate of 40W60% by addition of water. The resultant composition is continuously fermented for 7W10 days in a manner such that the center of the compositon is kept at a temperature of 50± 2°C, to embed an alcoholic ferment bacillus-contg. bacteria group to the coal. The obtained bacteria group-embedded coal can be used as such as seed sludge in an active sludge process, when coal preadjusted at a fixed particle size distribution is used.
