Abstract

PURPOSE:To recover energy during the times of engine braking by the use of another generator in addition to the previously used generator coupled to the rotating shaft of the engine so that an output current can be obtained from said generator only when the engine is used as a brake. CONSTITUTION:Apart from a generator 2 previously used for such purposes as battery charging, another generator 3 is mounted in an internal combustion engine in such a manner that said generator is coupled to the rotating shaft 5 of the engine by means of a fan belt 4. The generator consisting of a stator coil 8, diode 9 and exciting coil 10 is connected to a control circuit 7 fitted with a Zener diode 28 via terminals S, L1 and F and the terminal S is connected with a switch 12 which closes when engine brake goes into operation. If the switch 12 is turned on at the time of engine braking, a current flow through a coil 10 so that the outputs from the terminals B and L2, which are controlled not to exceed a definite value, can be used for car heaters, etc.
