Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a resin compsn. having improved resistance to impact and heat, by blending a polystyrene resin and a modified elastomer derived from an ethylene-α-olefine copolymer and styrene monomer with a polyphenylene ether.
CONSTITUTION: A polyphenylene ether, a polystyrene resin and a modified elastomer are kneaded to obtain the desired resin compsn., said modified elastomer being obtd. by reacting styrene monomer with an amorphous ethylene-α-olefin copolymer elastomer having a glass transition temp. of -40W-60°C and a tensile strength of 50kg/cm2 or below at an ordinary temp. It is necessary to use said modified elastomer in an amount of 3W30wt%, pref. 3W20wt%. When the amount of the modified elastomer is below the above lower limit, the impact resistance is not improved to the required level, while when it exceeds the upper limit, there is possibility that the compatibility becomes poor.
