PURPOSE:To improve the quality of printing by driving a non-impact matrix type print head with a linear motor adapted to generate a driving force only at both ends of a motor stroke. CONSTITUTION:Characters input from a keyboard 112 are displayed on an electronic indicator 111 for one line, and after confirmation, with a shift to the subsequent line, one line is printed on a paper with a printing head 8. The printing head 8 moves between two ends of the printing stroke for each shifting. The motor stroke corresponds to the printing stroke one to one while a linear motor in which a magnetic circuit is arranged only at both ends of the printing stroke requiring a driving force is used in an attempt to make the driving mechanism simpler and lighter. In addition, the direct driving of the printing head eliminates printing errors due to variation in the typing speed, secular change and the like, thereby assuring an excellent quality of printing.
