PURPOSE:To achieve bilateral communication by a couple of subscriber lines by controlling the time division of subscriber line digital signls and the direction of communication by providing digital synchronizers at both the ends of the couple of subscriber lines. CONSTITUTION:At both the ends of a couple of subscriber lines 20, digital synchronizers 11 and 12 are arranged; one synchronizer 11 is connected to a switchboard, etc., and the other synchronizer 12 is connected to a terminal equipment 13. This synchronizer 11 sends a digital signal 11a with frame bits 14, and data bits 15 and status bits 16 are transmitted synchronizing with the bits 14. This signal 11a is received by the synchronizer 12; the data bits 15 are extracted synchronizing with the bits 14 to be sent to the terminal equipment 13, and data D2 from the terminal equipment 13 is set, synchronizing with the bits 14, as a digital signal 12a. This signal 12a consists of the frame bit 17, data bit 18 and status bit 19 to enable bilateral communication by the couple of subscriber lines 20.
