Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance the stress corrosion cracking resistance of and oil well pipe by adding specified amounts of Mo, W, etc. to a high Cr-Ni steel used as the material of the pipe.
CONSTITUTION: An alloy steel having a composition contg. <0.10% C, <1.0% Si, <2.0% Mn, <0.030% P, <0.005% S, <0.5% Al, 22.5W30% Cr, 25W60% Ni and Mo and/or W in an amount satisfying equations I is used as the steel of an oil well pipe used in the highly corrosive severe environment of an oil well, a natural gas well. etc. To the composition may be added <1% Cu and/or <2% Co, and/or one or more among <0.10% rare earth element, <0.20% Y, <0.10% Mg, <0.10% Ca and <0.5% Ti.
