Abstract

PURPOSE: Nitrochlorbenzene is introduced with pressure into an ammonia solution which is kept at a prescribed temperature under pressure to prevent rapid and violent reaction and to produce the high-quality titled compound with reduced side-reactions safely with no danger of explosion.
CONSTITUTION: Nitrochlorobenzene of the formula (X is H, Cl, NO2) is aminated with an ammonia solution to give nitroaniline where the reaction is effected by gradually introducing the compound of the formula with pressure into an ammonia solution kept at 100W200°C. The reaction system is under pressure, when it is kept at the prescribed temperature. The concentration of the ammonia solution is appropriately 5W40%. Going out of the above upper and lower limits of the temperature and concentration undesirably causes formation of by-products and retardation of the reaction.
