Abstract

PURPOSE:To enhance the lightness, contrast, etc. of a reflection type liq. crystal display body applying a phase transition type guest-host effect by regulating the distance between a transparent electrode formed on the surface of the background substrate contacting with the liq. crystal layer and the reflecting plate to a specified value or below. CONSTITUTION:A reflection type liq. crystal display body is composed essentially of transparent electrodes 3, 4, a background substrate 2 and a reflecting plate 7. As the substrate 2 a plastic film such as a film of polyester, polyethylene or epoxy resin having <=150mum thickness is used. The transparent electrode 4 is formed on the surface of the substate 2 by vapor deposition, sputtering at low temp. or other method, and a diffusely reflecting plate 7 coated with Al, Ag, Au or the like in the form of a mat is joined to the rear side of the substrate 2 with an adhesive, a tackifier or the like 8 in-between. Thus, the distance between the electrode 4 and the plate 7 is regulated to <=150mum, and the desired liq. crystal panel is obtd.
