Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a compositive wire having large fatigue strength, by loading tensile force in the axial direction onto a bonded wire to creat a residual compressive stress in soft metal in said direction at the metallic bonding by coating the soft metal on a rigid core wire. CONSTITUTION:A rigid core wire (a) is fed from a feeding device 1 to be coated with soft metal on it by metal bonding through a coating device 2 so as to obtain a composite wire (b). The wire (b) is loaded with tensile force in the axial direction by a tensile force loading device 4 to creat a residual compressive stress in the soft metal coated on the wire (a), before the wire (b), after cooled, is taken-up by a take-up winder 3. When fatigue stress due to repeated bending etc. is actuted in the composite wire (b), the actual stress which gives the fatigue damage to the coating metal is a remainder left after subtracting the residual stress from an apparent stress, and then, the fatigue strength of the composite wire is improved.
