The number of the caller is stored in a register 2. A display device drive circuit 3 reads out the contents of the register 2 for display. The called party confirms the caller from the displayed number for off-hook. When the called party calls back the caller, a transmission key is depressed after off-hook. In this case, the contents of the register 2 is given to a dial pulse generating circuit 7. The circuit 7 automatically calls back the caller. The useless holding time can be eliminated in a callback telephone.
