Abstract
PURPOSE:To measure the sodium mist concentration in an on-line manner, by a method wherein by introducing a gas including sodium mist into a detecting vessel, and irradiating said gas with a laser beam, the quantity of the light scattered by said mist is measured. CONSTITUTION:The laser beam emitted from a laser beam source 2 enters through an incident window 4 into a detecting vessel 1 provided with a light trap 5. Because a cover gas including a mist of high concentration has been introduced in the detecting vessel 1, the laser beam is scattered by said mist. A portion of the scattered light which is radiated from over the overall length of the optical path of the incident beam to the circumference by means of the mist is detected by means of a light-receiving element 9 through an outlet window 6. The quantity of light received by the light-receiving element 9 is converted into an electric signal, and after the noises resulting from the ambient natural light besides the laser beam have been removed in a lock-in amplifier 12 interlocked with a chopper 11, said electric signal is amplified and recorded in a recorder 13.
