Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a salt-concentration difference power plant between seawater and fresh-water to be easily constructed, blessed with inexhaustible source of energy, free from environmental problems, capable to make great use of the existing technology, high in the rate of operation, and easy for exchanging and reversely washing semipermeable membrane enclosed water tanks.
CONSTITUTION: A concentration difference power plant 1 is set up at a spot where there are a river 2 and the sea 3 adjacently. The fresh-water flowing in the river 2 is conducted through a fresh-water pipe 5 from an intake 4 to drive a water wheel 6, and distributed into three semipermeable membrane enclosed water tanks 8 from a header 7 before discharged into the sea through the semipermeable membranes. The water wheel 6 is connected to a generator for generating power. When the fresh-water is brought into contact with the seawater via an interposed semipermeable membrane, the osmotic pressure of about 20 atmospheres is given and the fresh-water permeates the seawater. Therefore, the above-said semipermeable membrane enclosed water tank 8 is installed at the depth of about 200m or less under water. A drain pump 18 is used not only for the drainage at the time of the exchanging work but for the reverse washing work.
