Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent a sprayed material from peeling off its base material by heating the base material coated with the sprayed material to remelt the sprayed material once followed by rapid cooling and tempering. CONSTITUTION:The surfaces of steel parts are coated with a self-fluxing Ni alloy or the like by a spraying method to harden the surfaces. The parts are heated to a temp. just above the m.p. of the alloy to remelt Ni, and they are rapidly cooled by air cooling, oil quenching or other method according to the shape and size of the parts to convert the structure of the parts into a martensite structure. The parts are then tempered at about 550 deg.C. Thus, each Ni sprayed layer has superior adhesion to its steel base, and a high hardness sprayed base material preventing its Ni sprayed layer from peeling off is obtd.
