Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a methyl carboxylate under mild conditions of neutrality at ≤ room temperature simply in short time in high yield, by reacting a carboxylic acid with a trialkylsilyldiazomethane in the presence of methanol.
CONSTITUTION: 1mol Carboxylic acid is reacted with 1W3mol trialkylsilyldiazomethane shown by the formula R3'SiCHN2 (R' is 1W4C straight-chain or branched-chain similar or different alkyl), especially trimethylsilyldiazomethane, in the presence of methanol at ≤ room temperature, to give a corresponding methyl ester in high yield. By this method, not only a common carboxylic acid but also a fatty acid or bile acid can be easily subjected to methyl esterification, so that it is useful as pretreatment of a carboxylic acid before gas chromatography determination. The raw material compound is stable, safe, handled easily, and capable of being stored for a long time.
