PURPOSE:To stabilize reading and writing operation by improving contact between a recording and reproducing head and a record carrier, by setting the position of the recording and reproducing head gap and the position of a supporting point to be loaded on the center line of the head. CONSTITUTION:When a recording and reproducing head 14 provided with an erasing head 15 at both the sides touches a record carrier 13, it is loaded by a coil spring 18 provided between an arm 9 having an elastic part and a holder 7. This load is transferred to an upper head 12 through a gimbal spring 11 while the projection part 19 of the arm 9 is used as a supporting part. A recording and reproducing head gap 16 is positioned on the center line phi1 of the upper head 12 and right under the projection part 19 which applies the load to come into contact with the record carrier 13 stably. The erasing head 15 normally performs DC erasure, so it is unnecessary to consider spacing loss as much as the recording and reproducing head 14.
