If an output of the potentiometer 26 shows an abnormal value, it is judged that a trouble such as attached toner on the probe 14 takes place, and a switch 25 is selected. A specified reference potential is applied to the circuit 24 in place of the output of the potentiometer 26, and copying can be kept with a degree of video quality.
